Can You Really Make Money With Affiliate Marketing in Malaysia? #ECxFAQ

Affiliate marketing is a popular online business model in Malaysia. But can you really sustain yourself using just affiliate marketing in Malaysia?

Here’s what I have to say:

But if you ask me if I would depend on just Malaysian programs to make a living, I would have to say no.

Here’s why:

About 90% of the Malaysian affiliate programs I’ve dealt with appear not to have an automated system in place for verification and payment.

I would have to manually ask the affiliate program to verify conversions I made. 

In the example below, I made a RM88 commission on a sale in March, but its status was still ‘Pending’ in May.

So I e-mailed the affiliate manager to check. Only after I sent the email did they verify the conversion and make the payment to me.

Sadly, this is not the only time I had to ask for the verification and payment from a Malaysian affiliate program. From my own experience, I had to ask for the verification and payment around 90% of the time.

It may be because I’m not a big-time affiliate for them, but I believe that a good affiliate program treats affiliates at all levels equally. In this case, most Malaysian affiliate programs have failed.

In the case of US programs, on the other hand, the payments usually came in automatically:

I don’t need to ask anyone. The payments just come in during the expected payment date.

So let me ask you: which one is a more dependable income for you? 

An affiliate program which has to be chased for money, or one that sends you money automatically?

I think you know the answer.

So here’s my recommendation for you if you want to make money with affiliate marketing in Malaysia:

Don’t rely on just Malaysian affiliate marketing programs. Add US programs into your mix as well.

This is because US companies have more experience with affiliate marketing and put serious amounts of resources building them compared to Malaysian companies.

You don’t have to be a big-time affiliate for them to treat you seriously.

Malaysian Affiliate marketing programs, on the other hand, is still nascent in Malaysia and so companies may not have much experience or success with them. This makes their affiliate programs inefficient as they do not dedicate enough resources to them.
